International Charity Day, observed on September 5th, is a reminder of the power of collective action and generosity to create meaningful change in our world and our workplaces. At The c-suite podcast, we are committed to amplifying the voices of those who dedicate their lives to making a difference. Through our Charity Spotlight episodes, we’ve been fortunate to feature a range of incredible organisations whose work touches the lives of many. In this post, we celebrate these charities, share their stories, and highlight how you, too, can get involved in supporting their vital missions.
Haven House Children’s Hospice has been providing specialist care for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as support for their families, since 1990. Our episode with Haven House revealed the extraordinary care they offer, from expert clinical support to therapeutic services and respite care, allowing families to make the most of precious time together. Getting involved with Haven House is easy; you can participate in one of their many fundraising events, volunteer your time, or make a donation to help continue their life-changing work. If you’re a leader, listen to find out how you can support anyone in your team who may be experiencing a similar situation as our panellists’ describe.

In our feature on Tourettes Action, we explored the charity’s dedication to improving the lives of those affected by Tourette Syndrome, a neurological condition characterized by involuntary movements and sounds called tics. TS is often misunderstood as a condition which makes people swear, or say socially inappropriate things. Although it is true that ‘coprolalia’ – the clinical term for involuntary swearing – is a symptom of TS, it only affects a minority of people. 90% of people with TS do not have coprolalia. Tourettes Action provides essential support services, raises awareness, and advocates for better public understanding and acceptance. You can support their work by participating in their fundraising events, volunteering and taking the steps to ensuring your workplace is a truly inclusive and neurodiverse environment.

We were deeply moved by our discussion with Mental Health Innovations, a charity that leverages technology to provide digital tools and support for those experiencing mental health crises. Their flagship service, *Shout*, is a free, confidential text messaging service that connects people with trained volunteers 24/7. You can join organisations like the FA and EDF by initiating training to educate leaders on how to start conversations about mental health at work.

Ripple Suicide Prevention, founded to honour the memory of Alice Hendy’s brother, is a unique charity that aims to intercept individuals searching for harmful content online by providing them with mental health support resources instead. Our conversation with Ripple highlighted the importance of digital intervention in preventing suicides. To support Ripple, consider donating, sharing their message on social media, or even exploring ways your organisation can implement their technology to save lives.
